Exercising is a big deal. Virtually anyone can find an exercise that helps them on their quest for health. If you need to modify movements you’ve done in the past, do it. Find something you enjoy and that you will stick with. It could be going for a 30-minute walk each day or doing HIIT five days a week. It could be starting a weekly hiking group or working out to an exercise video at home. Eating more whole and organic foods is generally a healthier way to eat because you aren’t filling your body with chemicals and toxins. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, adding healthy fats, and cutting back on carbs and dairy are also all-around good ideas. Moreover, omega-3 fatty acids are known to reduce inflammation and promote brain function, so don’t shy away from salmon and other fish that contain omega-3s.

As you make lifestyle changes, don’t forget to make time for yourself. Waking up early is the most practical way to leave yourself more time for self-care practices. A lot of people trade in some of their nightly TV time for reading a fun book or add meditation into their daily schedule. You may be able to make some of the changes yourself, such as purchasing a bathtub chair or transfer bench or relocating the microwave for easier access. However, depending on your ailment, it could be worth your money to bring in a professional, especially for more extensive modifications like widening doorways, lowering cabinets, or adding an entrance ramp for easier access.
Living with chronic pain can lead to a life of isolation, loneliness, and depression. But it doesn’t have to. Open up to your loved ones, find a support group, and take your self-care seriously. Also, change your diet and exercise routines if you need to, and make whatever home modifications are necessary to stay safe and independent. With these steps, you’ll find that you really can live a thriving life.
